Pop Couture
Grace and Frankie Style Inspiration
This is a start of a new series I’ll be doing on THOUGHTS called Pop Couture. Outfits inspired by something in pop culture, whether that be music, movies, books, or television shows.
All Grace and Frankie photos are property of the television series.
Although a little late into the game at first, I have completely fallen for the TV series Grace and Frankie streaming on Netflix. I’ve asked friends if this show is commonly liked by my generation #millennials, and the reviews have been mixed. I heard a friend say the only people that like it are 70 year old women and myself, but I think that is simply not true. After doing further research (through Instagram… my only type of research now a days... not true, but you get the point) I’ve found that A TON of friends LOVE Grace and Frankie! I’m not the only one watching this unbelievable show for hours on end.
Not only is their situation hilarious and insane— I wanna get to the nitty gritty. After hours of watching within the first few hours, I realized I could definitely take some style tips from these two hot ladies.
A point hit on numerous times in the series, talks about how people, usually women, over 60 years old are often discounted or ignored. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin's characters confidence alone inspires me to take risks in how I carry myself. In this case, specifically in fashion. My personal style aligns more with Tomlin's character Frankie, and I have taken note of her various playful takes of outfits with a mesh top layered underneath.
Here’s some of my outfit inspiration from watching the show. I quickly realized I didn’t own any mesh tops, and went on the hunt for one immediately. Now, thanks to Frankie, I see my gray mesh top being a layering staple to my wardrobe.

Grace and Frankie recently did a live table read of an unreleased episode of the Season 7 opener to benefit Meals on Wheels during Covid-19.
My mesh top was purchased from Spanx and my silk button down blouse was thrifted at the quarterly Statemint sale in Knoxville, Tennessee.
