Pajamas As Fancy Clothes
How to Style Going from ZzZ's with Ease
What’s better than staying in your Pj’s all day? Learning how to wear those glorious items out and about and still look presentable or on your next Zoom call. Presentation aside, let’s start this whole thing off by choosing to wear what makes you feel most confident and just rock it. I know that can be easier said than done, but let’s start small. Here are some ways to make quarantine fancy while still being cozy or inspiration to keep the comfy vibe going after quarantine is over.
First off, let’s gravitate more towards the top of the body. Find a pattern that you're drawn towards and then go from there. My new go-to for finding sleepwear is to head to the thrift store. All three of my tops are second-hand. I love it because it’s significantly cheaper and more sustainable. Start out in the pajama section at your favorite local thrift store or Etsy shop and see what there is to see!
Outfit One
Spring Fuchsia Florals
No joke- I wanted this top when I first saw it while perusing through Target about a year ago. It had the most vibrant purple and red fabric with black silk buttons in a matching top and bottom pajama set. I decided to wait on the set; I am trying (trying is the key word here) to be more thoughtful about the origins of clothing and working conditions of the laborers.
So a year later, I saw the same set of pajamas in a local thrift store and in my size! I knew it was meant to be and snatched 'em up. The fuchsia colors are vibrate, and that’s what I love most about it. I paired it with my favorite jeans I got from Zara years ago and some second hand Gap boots that I found at Planet Exchange last year. Do a little roll of the cuff and French tuck, and you’re good to go.
Outfit Two
Pepto Couture
While driving down the highway of 411 in the boonies of Tennessee on my way to go camping, I was met with the “World’s Longest Yard Sale”. I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t stop at some point during the journey. So after a couple stops of not finding anything, I started to lose hope. UNTIL, I decided to stop at one last place (which was basically a mega mart outside in the front of someone’s country home) in Vonroe, Tennessee. And there I saw it. A long pink flower satin top with white piping. Little tiny white buttons down the front of the blouse. The 60 year old man with a pot belly and overalls manning the booth handed me a white plastic grocery bag. He said I could fill it up to the brim, all for a dollar. Unfortunately, I didn’t find anything else that struck my fancy, so I paid the nice man a dollar, grabbed my new top, and headed down the road.
Honestly at first, the top didn’t smell great. It had lingering smell of cigarette smoke, but after a few washes it was good as new. I paired it with my old pair of gap wide leg jeans, some lip earrings from ban.do, and white boots. I was feeling a full monochromatic look, and it ended up being one of my favorites.
Outfit Three
Blooms in Progress
This Asian inspired top was also found at local Knoxville, Tennessee thrift store on a different occasion. I was drawn in by the intricate beading on the back. The embroidered flowers with the oversized vibes make me feel comfy but dressed up whenever I wear this tunic. I style it with a variety of tops underneath when it’s chillier out; whether that’s the black and white turtle neck I’m wearing here, a black chunky turtleneck, or just a thin cotton long sleeved shirt. Darker than my usual outfits, it still has generous pops of color. This is my go to look when I want to feel comfy, but still mildly put together.
Hope you all dug the looks and gave you some inspiration for clothes in your wardrobe that you didn’t know you had! I’d love to see your quarantine outfits too! Tag me on Instagram @badcontent.co so I can see em!
